The person chosen to sing the anthem in front of crowds of rodeo enthusiasts is chosen annually by competition.

Over a hundred hopefuls submit auditions, like the one on the screen, and voters along with judges narrow them down to eight.

“I happen to be one of those top eight individuals,” commented Jessica Cason.

Cason is a woman hailing from Ballinger. When she got the news, to say she was excited would be an understatement.

“I’m calling everyone I know, my husband, my mother in law, my mom, my dad and telling everyone sending out texts.”

“In all caps, pretty much screaming that she made it to the final eight,” commented her husband, Wacey Cason.

John Harrison, a world-class rodeo clown, will be part of all three shows– 7:30 p.m. Friday night, 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

One day, they needed somebody to clown around and they tapped Harrison.

He and his trusty horse, Juice, have been entertaining crowds and keeping the cowboys and cowgirls safe for nearly 20 years.

Also, Lynn Parman, president and CEO of the American Royal, wants to make sure everybody knows that the fun continues after the last act.

Tailgating with live music keeps things going after the rodeo.
